Request for Proposals

Update: We are no longer accepting proposals. We received more than 70; last year we received just 20. We will be notifying everyone by July 1, 2009. Thank you for participating! We are looking forward to an exciting Festival this year.

The 2009 Massachusetts Poetry Festival is seeking proposals for program components for the Festival which will take place on October 15th, 16th and 17th.

The Festival will open with an event in Boston on Thursday evening at the Boston Public Library co-sponsored with the Ford Hall Forum. If other co-sponsors are interested in other opening Thursday evening events in other parts of the state we would be very interested in developing that idea.  Then for Friday and Saturday the Festival moves to the old mill buildings, galleries, museums, cafes and churches of downtown Lowell.

We are seeking program proposals from across the state. We want to have poetry readings, workshops, talks, performances, and more for participants of all ages. We hope to have specific programs designed for high school poets, undergraduate college poets and graduate MFA poets, for families and for younger children. We hope to provide a showcase for every school, style and tribe of the poetry community. We seek diversity of style, culture and language. We seek innovative programs that can excite the audience, draw people to the festival and showcase the amazing array of poetic talents across  our state.

Please help us get the work out to as many poets and poetry organizations, teachers, schools and libraries as you can. Please forward this post to all poets on your lists.

You can download the RFP form for the 2009 Festival here. Proposals can be submitted by email or postal mail by May 15th to:
