Woodberry Poetry Room Online

On the occasion of  its 80th anniversary, the Woodberry Poetry Room at Harvard University announces the creation of a new website that offers scholars and poetry-readers worldwide the opportunity to encounter rare and heretofore inaccessible recordings from its historic archive.

The WPR is home to an unparalleled collection of 20th and 21st century  English-language poetry materials. It features a  circulating collection of poetry monographs and anthologies, an encyclopedic  array of poetry journals and magazines, a landmark collection of audio recordings,  and the Blue Star collection of rare manuscripts, chapbooks and ephemera.

Now many of these resources are available online.

The website’s extensive Listening Booth represents over one hundred highlights from the first phase of an initiative to digitize and preserve fragile reel-to-reel recordings (from 1931 onward), as well as selections from recent WPR programs and events.

The Vocarium page focuses on current audio and video projects emerging from the Poetry Room, including

  •  WPR Recordings Sessions
  • Oral History Initiative
  • “The Latest,” a monthly podcast series by Harvard Professor of English Stephen Burt.

This “enormous chorus” is accompanied by an abundance of resources, research guides, announcements of upcoming opportunities and events, and visitor information.

Teachers, poetry lovers, poets — enjoy many of the resources of the Woodberry Poetry Room in the comfort of you home.  hcl.harvard.edu/poetryroom.
