Philosophic Poet John Hollander Dies

John HollanderWe celebrate the life of John Hollander who came to national attention in 1958 when Auden selected him for the Yale Series of Younger Poets prize. He died this week at the age of 83.

Among Hollander’s other recognitions are the Bollingen Award, the poet laureate of Connecticut and a MacArthur Fellowship, which he won in 1990. At the time of his death he was the Sterling Professor Emeritus at Yale.

Hollander was known for his intelligence, wit and philosophic depth.
